Maintaining Employee Morale and Office Relocation Excitement throughout the Moving Process

from:

Human Resources (HR) professionals are responsible for employee morale and office relocation when the corporate headquarters calls for it. Sometimes it's not jut a single employee that moves from one job to another, thousands of miles away. Sometimes everyone is given the chance to move with their jobs, and those who elect to come along have a position along with some relocation assistance.

It's not always easy to keep spirits high when employees can easily look at such a situation as essentially being fired. Unless there is a good reason for them to even consider leaving their friends and family to follow a job somewhere, the odds are that they won't. However, such decisions are usually made months (if not years) in advance, so everyone usually has ample warning. As such, to minimize falling employee morale and office relocation mutiny, it's just good corporate policy to offer as large a relocation package as possible to all employees.

Relocation packages can include the more traditional assistance with the cost of the actual moving services, a plane ticket to the new location, bonuses and other physical relocation services, but may also include social services, too. These might include language training for moves that take you out of the country. There could be programs that help find new schools for children and job seeking services for spouses. In the event that a new job takes people a long distance away, little touches of home from a company that seems to care can go a long way towards boosting employee morale and office relocation excitement.

Maintaining employee morale and office relocation momentum is often easier with companies that have youthful employees who are just out of college. People who've not put roots down yet require fewer tertiary services, as far as the move itself is considered and, are far more likely to seek adventure. That said, the package will look that much more enticing if the new location is cosmopolitan, urban or desirable in any way that might appeal to younger employees. Common things to look for when investigating a new office location include arts and nightlife, nearby recreational opportunities and a mild climate.

Throughout the process, it is best to keep people fully barest of what's happening and make sure they know the HR department is doing everything it can to make the process as smooth and potentially lucrative as possible for everyone involved. No one likes to think they haven't been given a proper choice, so it's best to put everything you can possibly promise out on the table at once. When employee morale and office relocation success are at stake, consider the lasting damage to the operation that resentful employees can cause. Do the right thing, and it is very likely that your staff will follow you.
